Japanese Knotweed Eradication – your guide to Japanese knotweed
apanese knotweed is a big problem for gardeners everywhere. As a non-native plant species to most parts of the world, it poses a threat to native plants and flowers. This plant is originally from Japan, and it was introduced to other parts of the world in the 1800s. It was mostly a decorative plant, as it had long stalks that were different from other plants in the area. It quickly went from being a pretty foreign plant to a dangerous invasive species.
This plant is dangerous to other plant species and to buildings, making
Japanese knotweed eradication
a priority for many landowners. It is an aggressive plant that crowds out other plants, spreading quickly and preventing the growth of other plants. Since it has been transplanted to a place where it has no natural predators, it grows unchecked. It has an extremely strong, complex root system that spreads quickly underground. The spreading roots can interfere with water lines, pipes, and building foundations. Japanese knotweed is such a big problem that mortgage lenders are even beginning to refuse mortgages on houses that have a Japanese Knotweed problem.
To be able to complete Japanese knotweed eradication, it’s important to know how it looks. Unfortunately, it is a perennial plant. That means that it will continue to grow and thrive year after year, rather than dying after one growing season. During the fall, white flowers bloom on the plant. After the flowers die, the stems die. It can grow to be very tall, and it often has the appearance of bamboo stalks.
It is very hard to completely do Japanese knotweed eradication on your own. Weed killers have to be applied in liberal doses to even affect the plant; an amount that could kill the plant would also decimate the nearby grass and local plants. Furthermore, the roots of the plant are strong and hardy; even if the flowers and stalks die, the root may still be able to grow more Japanese knotweed. Taking out the roots works, but it is near impossible to completely remove the root. Most people need to hire a professional to eradicate Japanese knotweed on their property.

A Dictionary of Japanese Loanwords $119.3 When countries engage in a significant amount of commercial or cultural contact, they frequently borrow words from each other’s language. These loanwords are assimilated to varying degrees and show how one country gains exposure to another country’s culture. Recent studies report that Japanese is the second most productive source of new loanwords to English, showing that English-speaking countries are paying more attention to Japan than ever before. This dictionary includes entries for hundreds of Japanese terms now used in English-language publications. Included are terms from art and architecture, medicine and the sciences, business and education, philosophy and religion, and numerous other fields. Entries provide definitions, pronunciations, variant spellings, etymological histories, and illustrative quotations. These quotations were collected from books, newspapers, magazines, novels, texts, advertisements, and databases, all of which were published or distributed in the United States between 1964 and 1995. While the volume is a valuable guide to the meaning and assimilation of particular loanwords, it is also a fascinating chronicle of how certain elements of Japanese culture have strongly influenced American civilization. |

Decadence: 300 Years of Lowbrow Japanese Fetish Art $87.95 A COFFEE-TABLE COLLECTION OF A FASCINATING TRADITION IN JAPANESE ART. This is a lush coffee table art book comprising a survey of Ukiyo-e poster art, which was a genre of Japanese wood block prints of the ancient Edo period (1600-1867) that continue to inspire and inform creators of Japanese manga and anime. Decadence focuses on shunga prints, or Japanese erotica. Shunga was designed to titillate, depicting a range of traditional themes such as exotic Asian beauties in intimate, pin-up poses and dramatic couplings with fierce warriors wielding enormous swords, macabre supernatural lovers, and bestial animals and monsters. Many of the most historically and aesthetically significant artists of the genre are represented, including Tsukioka Yoshitoshi, Kachoyojo Azumagenji, Toyohara Kunichika, Yoshiiku, and Hokusai, among others. Modern artists through the 1990s who have been influenced or inspired by Ukiyo-e imagery are also represented, such as the Japanese underground cartoonist Suehiro Maruo, who in 1988 recreated Ukiyo-e theatre posters about a kubuki drama called 28 Murders in a manga format using current famous murderers; the tattoo artist Horiyoshi the Third; the contemporary pin-up photographer Nobuyushi Aruki; Ultraman creator Eiji Usuburaya, whose B-movie scenarios are reminiscent of kabuki plots and Ukiyo-e images; Nagisa Oshima’s film In the Realm of the Senses; and others. The color and black-and-white Ukiyo-e images may surprise Western eyes, with their highly decorative realism, attention to detail, exaggerated sexual genitalia, and almost Cubist (before Cubism) multiple perspectives, giving them a surreal, vivid, and disorienting quality. Proving the universality offetishism and sexual fantasies, this erotic guide serves to bridge the ancient and the modern, providing a glimpse into by-gone pleasures and pleasure districts and their influences on contemporary Japanese popular culture and erotic literature. |

Dynamic Karate $65.23 Most books on karate usually do not provide complete, detailed instructions and illustrations-the fundamentals plus the fine points-that readers hope for. This book fills the gaps left by others. The late Master Masatoshi Nakayama, chief instructor of the Japan Karate Association, left this book as a testament. It reveals his great experience as a karate competitor and teacher, describing and illustrating in detail all the correct movements involved in the particular block, punch, or kickyou want to perfect, as well as instructions–on combining blocking techniques with decisive counterattacks. Also included is a glossary of all Japanese karate terms and a guide to their pronunciation. Because of the lightning speed of karate techniques, normal camera work often fails to record the action accurately. For this reason, many of the photo sequences found in Dynamic Karate were taken using a stroboscope with a flash time of 1/10,000 of a second, enabling you to follow each movement asit is actually performed. |

Essentials of Shinto: An Analytical Guide to Principal Teachings $158.01 Shinto is finally receiving the attention it deserves as a fundamental component of Japanese culture. Nevertheless, it remains a remarkably complex and elusive phenomenon to which Western categories of religion do not readily apply. A knowledge of Shinto can only proceed from a basic understanding of Japanese shrines and civilization, for it is closely intermingled with the Japanese way of life and continues to be a vital natural religion. This book is a convenient guide to Shinto thought. As a reference work, the volume does not offer a detailed critical study of all aspects of Shinto. Instead, it overviews the essential teachings of Shinto and provides the necessary cultural and historical context for understanding Shinto as a dynamic force in Japanese civilization. The book begins with an historical overview of Shinto, followed by a discussion of Japanese myths. The volume then discusses the role of shrines, which are central to Shinto rituals. Other portions of the book discuss the various Shinto sects and the evolution of Shinto from the Heian period to the present. Because Japanese terms are central to Shinto, the work includes a glossary. |
